Urban-type Settlements: The key to Balanced Spatial Development in Uzbekistan (2013/05)

The quality of any community, be it a large city, mid-size town or small settlement – that is, the way its architecture infrastruc¬ture, system of governance and other key elements are organized – indicates how successful its development has been.

On the other hand, the quality of a community also determines the prospects for further growth, since social and economic development cannot occur without efficiently organized settlements.

In the long term, the spatial framework of Uzbekistan must rely on the network of large and mid-size cities, which will become the centers of gravity for small towns and urban-type settlements. This will ensure balanced distribution of productive forces, human resources, and will speed up the development of industry and the service sector.
