Reception of the World Bank Mission in CER

On July 26, 2018, the Center for Economic Research hosted a meeting of the CER Director, Sh. Nazarov with representatives of the World Bank mission led by Sandeep Mahajan, Manager at the Macroeconomics, Trade and Investment (MTI) Global Practice of the World Bank for Central Asia, South Caucasus and Russia. The senior economists of the World Bank Vinayak Nagaraj and Eskender Trushin also attended the meeting.

During the meeting, issues related to reforms in Uzbekistan were thoroughly discussed. The parties exchanged views on the reform program and its analytical support, the most effective ways of rendering assistance to the government of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Particular attention was paid to the issues of policy research and the provision of recommendations on economic growth and liberal economic reforms.

This meeting was held within the framework of the visit of Mr. Sandip Mahajan to the Republic of Uzbekistan from July 23 to July 27, 2018.

The purpose of the current mission is:

1) exchange of views on the reform program and identification of the best ways to provide assistance to the government of the Republic of Uzbekistan;

2) conducting a preliminary discussion on the next part of the DPO (direct public offering - direct placement of its securities among a wide range of investors (usually customers, employees, suppliers, distributors, etc.) without involvement of underwriters);

3) Information on the draft roadmap for reforms prepared by the World Bank at the request of the authorities of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
